This play asks important questions about an unsettling present and a potentially more terrifying future, defined by physical and metaphorical borders. The Toll digs into the dangerous impact that shouting into the void might be having on friendship, families, and the future of the country.
We leant into the heightened and satirical elements of the play, and used this within the design to bring the characters and the world to life and tackle some of the darker elements of the story. Drawings were important for me to figure out the details, but embraced collaboration and change within the process. As the script and rehearsals developed, adapting and changing the design was an exiting part of the process of working with new writing.
Made under COVID-19 restrictions, with social distancing in place. For any queries contact the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
